Celebrating Warriors As The World Celebrates World Sickle Cell Day

Everyday a warrior wakes up to see another daybreak they're full of confidence and hopes of leading and living a better life. Here is a very crucial question to each and everyone of us:
Do you help build their hope and confidence of living a better life or shatter it?

Alot of warriors has lost themselves to depression and tagged themselves as failures all because of this so called stigmatization and rejection in the society.

60% of Warriors are being faced with stigmatization either at work, school, churches, mosque, neighborhood and even hospitals. Some warriors face worst stigmatization even during their marital life they are stigmatized by their spouse seeing themselves marrying a warrior as a favour on the warrior's part.

Here is a note to everyone who has known, met or will come in contact with a warrior: warriors need to be shown and showered with love, care and attention, they ought not to be faced with physical and emotional pains. Help a warrior in your own best way because whatever behavior we put forward in our interactions with Sickle Cell warriors can push them to commit suicide, or even attempt suicide.

CALL THEM WARRIORS NOT SICKLERS

To most people, Sickle cell patients are tagged 'SICKLERS', this is the case especially in Africa. In Nigeria, you'd hear them label them as "ỌMỌ F'ÒNÍKÚ, F'Ọ̀LÀ DÌDẸ" or "ÀBÍKÚ" translated as "One who dies today and rises tomorrow" or "Still birth". These kinds of label do not help their self esteem or boost their confidence in who they truly are. They are indeed, "Warriors".

People who live with sickle cell are not SICKLERS but WARRIORS, because they fight for their lives, they fight a war against death, they run a race to win death in it's game, they struggle to live and struggle to overcome the storms of life, they struggle amidst all odds. They fight for your love, they are at war with people, trying to fight their ways to your heart, contend for your acceptance, for your love, they want to be accepted just like every other normal kids, they want to be loved unconditionally and not out of your pity, they want to warm their ways into SOCIETAL ACCEPTANCE AND LOVE.

Their life is a story of war, and survival of the fittest, so why call them SICKLERS, when all they do is fight, wage wars and conquer death. They aren't to be tagged or labelled SICKLERS but be ACKNOWLEDGED and PRAISED as BRAVE WARRIORS who fights and wins the world.

There are various ways in reducing the drastic increase in the population of HBSS Patient. The first and only effective and efficient way is to KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE, get tested today and know your genotype.

Knowing your genotype will go a long way in stopping and reducing the population rate of Sickle Cell in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

To win this fight they everyone us to:
Advocate for a new-born screening policy in Nigeria. New born screening would help parents detects their children's condition early and grant access to better health care and support.

Medical Pratictioner should solicit the support of the government to provide coordinated free genotype tests across Nigeria, that will encourage the masses to know their genotypes. You and I should spread the gospel about the importance of Genotype knowledge.

WE NEED YOU, WE NEED ME, WE NEED THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD TO HELP US, TO JOIN US, TO TEAM UP WITH US ON THE FIGHT AGAINST SICKLE CELL DISORDER. LETS HELP CREATE A LITTLE, OR WORLD FREE AND DEVOID OF SICKLE CELL WARRIORS.
